Shrimp Attack, the beloved but long lost orchestral pop album, reissued on vinyl for a special 20th anniversary release.
The album was originally recorded in 2005 with the member artists of Creative Clay, the renowned St. Petersburg arts center whose mission is to help people with disabilities achieve full and inclusive lives. Chamber folk? Outsider art rock? Anthemic punk musical theatre? Yes. Shrimp Attack was all of this and more, but scant copies remain, leaving the album a mysterious cult classic known by only the most devoted collectors.
Until now.
To coincide with Creative Clay’s 30th Anniversary celebration, Stuart Hyatt, the album’s composer and producer, has remixed and remastered the original recordings for this new limited edition release. Pressed to oceanic transparent vinyl with brand new cover illustrations by Andrew McGranahan, Shrimp Attack comes roaring back in all its earnest sonic glory.
100% of the profits will fund Creative Clay’s mission of helping people with disabilities achieve full and inclusive lives by providing expressive, educational and vocational experiences in the arts.

Track Notes and Lyrics:
SIDE A:
1. I Found your Kind
A double meaning on the word kind; I found someone who is gentle and compassionate, but also someone who is like me - outsider status - a “shrimp”. Sets the orchestral tone with sweeping piano vistas, oboes & clarinets, melodica, thunderous bass drum, echoing & repetitive vocal chanting.
Lyrics:
I keep reaching out
I keep reaching out for your kind
Words that go on and on like waves
I reached into the sea
And found your kind
The Shrimp
The Shrimp
The fiercest eyes of shrimp
I will surely beat you
It’s about time
Shrimp
Shrimp
Shrimp Attack
2. Bursting on the Ground
The battle begins between the shrimp and the humans. A simple guitar arpeggio & toy piano lay under the emotional narrator. Slowly builds into explosive chants and groans.
Lyrics:
Standing on the edge
Of the land by the sea
Thinking
I’m never gonna get old
They came from over there
With their moms and polar bears swimming
You’re worth it, You’re worth it
You’re worth it, You’re worth it
You’re worth it
Gather your ideas
Call your family up
Make a combination
We haven’t seen anything yet
They were bursting on the ground
They came from all around
They tear our houses down
(Tear their house down)
They were making loud sounds
(Making the loud sounds)
Loud Sounds
I know, you know, wolves and things
Roh Rah, Roh Rah, Roh Rah, Roh Rah
I know, you know, wolves and things
Roh Rah, Roh Rah, Roh Rah, Roh Rah
Come on, Come on, Come on, Come on
Come with me
Come on, Come on, Come on, Come on
Come with me
Come on, Come on, Come on, Come on
Come with me
Come on, Come on, Come on, Come on
Come with me
3. March
The “shrimp king” arrives with his army. Step into line! Chaos ensues. The king loses his mind and goes into a reverie of “the saints go marching in”. Woodwinds, cellos, and piano march along.
Lyrics:
I’m here, it’s me
Step into line
Step out to the sea
I’m here, it’s me
Step into line
Step out to the sea
Oh when the shrimp go marching in
Oh when the shrimp go marching in
Oh I want to be on that number
When the shrimp go marching in
Oh when the sun begins to shine
Oh when the sun begins to shine
Oh I want to be on that number
When the sun begins to shine
4. House of Dead Bodies
The battle ends. The dead fill the landscape. The narrator assesses the damage, looking for survivors.
Lyrics:
I walked up to the house
The house of dead bodies
I think some people are ok
I hope they’re ok
In the house of dead bodies
In the house of dead bodies
Champagne and glass
In the house of dead bodies
All the garbage and rats
In the house of dead bodies
And the small pegs
And my big legs
In the house of dead bodies
I see you
I bite your neck
In the house of dead bodies
Oh yeah, it’s gross
In the house of dead bodies
In the house of dead bodies
In the house of dead bodies
Huge, giant, greasy
Bodies, dead bodies
Big
Huge, giant
Bodies, dead bodies
(I am not afraid)
The beat
Greasy
Let’s give it at the beat
Bodies, dead bodies
I gotta eat
I gotta eat
There’s dead bodies everywhere!
In the house of dead bodies
(In the house)
In the house of dead bodies
They’re terrified
(In the house)
In the house of dead bodies
Death in the water
(In the house)
In the house of dead bodies
And the sky turned black
(In the house)
In the house of dead bodies
And I turned my back
(In the house)
In the house of dead bodies
Shrimp attack
SIDE B:
5. Good
Those who survive now try to find joy in the simple things. (Lead vocals by Mike, an almost nonverbal artist who only says a few choice words. So I had to write around these simple phrases). “They’re good. They’re good stuff. Big Hot Dog. Yummy.”
Lyrics:
They’re good
They’re good stuff
Big hot dog
Yummy
They’re good
They’re good!
They’re good stuff
They’re good stuff!
Big hot dog
Big hot dog!
Yummy
Yummy!
Well they leap
And it’s hard
To be all that you are
And your arms
And your feet
And your head
And your heart
They’re good
They’re good stuff
Big hot dog
Yummy
They’re good
They’re good!
They’re good stuff
They’re good stuff!
Big hot dog
Big hot dog!
Yummy
Yummy!
Well they leap
And it’s hard
To be all that you are
And your arms
And your feet
And your head
And your heart
Let’s go
We’re WWSW
AM/FM Pittsburgh
3 W S
Let’s go
We’re WWSW
AM/FM Pittsburgh
3 W S
6. We’re Okay
Another double meaning. We’re Okay (as in we are alive and well), but also - We’re Okay (we are complex people with hopes and dreams, not just disabled). Percussion is a skateboard wheel.
Lyrics:
Are you ok?
I’m ok
Are you ok?
Yeah I’m ok
Are you ok?
I’m ok
Are you ok?
M mhmm hmm
Are you ok?
Ok
Hey, are you ok?
Yes I’m alive!
Are you ok?
I’m ok
We’re ok
We’re ok
We’re ok
We’re ok
We’re ok
We’re ok
We’re ok
We’re ok
7. Ninja Tree
Planting seeds of hope after the war.
Lyrics:
It’s hard to speak
Reaching for the good things
You beat us down
There’s nothing left to see
I’ve got a plant
I can use for healing
Let’s make it big
Make a Ninja tree
Would you like to see what I am holding?
I kept it in, I didn’t want to fight
It’s a star and stars are made for throwing
Just because, it doesn’t make it right
Ninja, Ninja
Ninja, Ninja
Ninja, Ninja
Ninja, Ninja
I am a Ninja
Disappear!
I am a Ninja
Reappear!
I am a Ninja
Watch me disappear!
I am a Ninja, I am a Ninja
Ninja
Disappear!
I am a Ninja
Reappear!
On and on, on and on
On and on, on and on
On and on, on and on
Ninja, Ninja
Ninja
8. Let’s be Still
A shrimp and a human fall in love and make a home together. Melodica and cello melt the heart.
Lyrics:
I come from the water
I live on the land
We’ve gotta get on with the day
I know, I understand
Cause I’m scared of daisies
I’m done with the war
We’ve got hands and chelipeds
Let’s build a house on the shore
We have fun
We have love
Let’s be still
Until, until
9. Ben’s House
The finale. Where we all go to rest. Ben is entirely nonverbal, has never spoken a word in his life, but wanted to be on the album. I put headphones on him and cranked up the volume. He began this really haunting but beautiful humming. I looped the humming and came up with this.
Lyrics:
Mmmmm
Mm Hmmmmm
